Student & Parent Policies (Online Guide - No Tuition Pricing)

Last updated: January 30, 2026

This guide is provided for students and parents/guardians to understand how training, hours, progress, and key policies work at Tre’s Barber Institute (TBI). State licensing rules are set by the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR).

1) Age Requirement

  • TBI accepts students starting at age 16+. Students under 18 may require a parent/guardian for certain enrollment steps and documentation.

  • Licensing note: TDLR states an applicant must be at least 17 to apply for a Class A Barber license (see TDLR “Apply for a Barber License”)

    2) Program Overview

  • Students progress through a combination of online theory (Milady CIMA), in-person, practical training, and regulated hour tracking.

  • Online theory completion through Milady CIMA

  • Practical skill development with instructor evaluations

  • Hours tracked and reported according to TDLR rules (including monthly limits)

    3) Hours & Monthly Limits

  • Students must monitor hours monthly. TDLR limits how many hours can be credited in a calendar month.

    184 hours per calendar month

    (no roll over)

  • Do not exceed 184 hours in a single calendar month.

  • Hours above the monthly limit cannot be credited once the month closes.

  • Plan your in-person and online hours so you stay within the monthly cap.

Source: TDLR SHEARS Operations Manual (student hours and reporting).

    4) Online Hours & Milady CIMA

  • TBI uses Milady CIMA for online theory and approved online hour accumulation.

  • Students are responsible for completing assigned modules and monitoring totals.

  • Log in consistently and complete assigned chapters and activities.

  • Monitor monthly hour totals to avoid exceeding the 184-hour monthly cap.

  • Communicate early if you are falling behind or experiencing technical issues.

    5) Grading & Progress

    A) Online Theory (Milady CIMA)

  • Each chapter includes quizzes/assessments.

  • Passing standard: 70% or higher on chapter quizzes (retakes allowed).

  • Quiz scoring and completion are recorded inside Milady CIMA.

    B) Practical Skills (In-Person)

  • Students are evaluated by instructors on sanitation and safety, tool handling, service steps,

  • consultations, professionalism, and required competencies. Students may be asked to

  • re-demonstrate skills until competent.

    6) Clock In / Clock Out Policy

  • Accurate timekeeping protects your hours and keeps school records audit-ready. Clock in only when you are actively training or completing approved study.

    Clock in:

  • Clock in only when you are present and ready to begin training, assigned study, or

  • approved online work.

  • Follow the day’s schedule and school expectations.

    Clock out:

  • Clock out when leaving the building.

  • Clock out for lunch/breaks.

  • Clock out any time you are not actively participating in training/study.

  • No backdating / no extra hours

  • Hours cannot be added later because someone forgot to clock in/out. Repeated

  • timekeeping issues may require an administrative meeting and can delay progress.

  • TDLR expects schools to maintain accurate attendance records and may audit reported hours against

  • documentation.

    7) Account Status & Tuition Holds (No Tuition Pricing Listed)

  • Tre’s Barber Institute | Student & Parent Policies (No Tuition Pricing)

  • Payment plan options are discussed during your tour/enrollment meeting.

  • To remain in active training status, students must stay financially current.

    Past-due hold policy

  • Students who miss payments and become past due may be placed on a temporary hold.

  • While on hold, students are not allowed to clock hours until the late tuition/payment is brought current.

  • Once the account is current, the student may resume clocking hours based on scheduling and availability.

    8) Attendance Status, Drops, and Re-Enrollment

    10-day no-attendance drop (TBI policy)

  • If a student has no attendance for 10 consecutive calendar days, TBI may process the student as Drop/Inactive for internal tracking and planning.

  • Students may request re-enrollment and resume once requirements are met.

    Re-enrollment after drop

  • Administrative meeting and updated attendance plan

  • Completion of required make-up work (if applicable)

  • Account brought current before clocking hours

  • Return is subject to school scheduling and availability

  • TDLR/SHEARS note: Except for a documented leave of absence, the SHEARS manual states schools must terminate a student who does not attend for 30 consecutive days.

    9) Immigration Status, SSN, and TDLR Lawful Presence

    Requirements:

  • TDLR requires documentation establishing lawful presence as a condition of licensure. If a student does not have a Social Security Number (SSN), TDLR provides an official process and forms.
